One of the most important projects developed by Netquity Corporation has been working on Docker swarm successfully for years, however, due to the methodical rise of Kubernetes as the main orchestrator for containers, the development of Docker Swarm slowed down and almost abandoned, meanwhile Kubernetes is become into the industry standard and get a lot of new features every day making it more powerful and can allow us to improve our operational excellence, security, performance, reliability and cost reduction while keeping a platform-agnostic and open-source apporach.

Netquity Challenge

In the last years, Netquity has adopted opensource containers technology (Docker Swarm) to support the operation of the Icelink platform avoiding vendor locking and using an infrastructure agnostic approach, by doing this they can deploy the platform on the cloud and also on the on premise environments within the same tooling stack.


In the last years, Docker has slowed down the Swarm development while other container orchestrations tools such as Kubernetes, EKS, Openshift have continued adding value and growing.

  • The challenge is to select and migrate to a containers orchestrations technology that meet the following constraints:

  • Must have Docker compatibility

  • Must be Open-source Technology

  • Must be Platform-agnostic: should run on-premise or on cloud in the same way

  • Should be community-wide adopted
