Docker Swarm vs Kubernetes

Netquity Corporation is a leading provider of enterprise software development for mission-critical platforms.

One of the most important projects developed by Netquity Corporation has been working on Docker Swarm successfully for years. However, due to the methodical rise of Kubernetes as the main orchestrator for containers, the development of Docker Swarm slowed down and was almost abandoned.

Kubernetes has become the industry standard and gets a lot of new features every day making it more powerful, allowing IT professionals to improve operational excellence, security, performance, reliability, and cost reduction while keeping a platform-agnostic and open-source approach.

About Netquity

Netquity Corporation is a leading provider of enterprise software development. Delivered projects starting from startup mobile applications to globally distributed & operationally mission-critical platforms. Integrate a mix of concepts and strategies with his passion for technology to bring his customers ideas to life. With unparalleled industry knowledge, technical talent, and unique company culture, Netquity makes complex problems simplified.

Netquity's Challenges

In the last years, Netquity has adopted opensource containers technology (Docker Swarm) to support the operation of the Icelink platform avoiding vendor locking and using an infrastructure agnostic approach, by doing this they can deploy the platform on the cloud and also on the on-premise environments within the same tooling stack.

In the last years, Docker has slowed down the Swarm development while other container orchestration tools such as Kubernetes, EKS, and Openshift have continued adding value and growing.

  • The challenge is to select and migrate to a containers orchestrations technology that meet the following constraints:

  • Must have Docker compatibility

  • Must be Open-source Technology

  • Must be Platform-agnostic: should run on-premise or on cloud in the same way

  • Should be community-wide adopted

Why AWS

Netquity was already using  AWS services for other projects and continues to choose AWS due to the stability of the platform, and innovation provided in recent years.
